A veteran petroleum geologist, professor,
author, tennis player and skier, Eric Dahlberg has been an
active silversmith, jewelry fabricator and designer since
2000.
He has completed over a dozen courses and
workshops with renowned metal artists in the U.S. and Canada
and has produced a large and varied collection of original
works combining mainly silver, gemstones, polished rock pieces,
bronze, copper and gold. These are pendants, bracelets, brooches,
chains, earrings, rings, belt buckles and picture lockets.
He does not market his works publicly but
accepts commissions for custom-designed pieces from private
individuals who present an idea or a concept which can then
be translated into an arresting piece of once-in-a-lifetime
art combining metals and minerals.
In 2003 he was the runner-up for Lapidary
Journal’s Metal
Jewelry Award for his picture agate, silver and bronze
western-style belt buckle “Taos Outrageous” (see
Gallery).
“My objective is most simply to do
with metals and minerals what Dave Brubeck, the eminent jazz
pianist, does with musical chords and rhythms” he observes.
He is a member of the Calgary Rock and Mineral
Club -- in whose shows he displays jewelry and rocks from
his extensive world-wide collection and demonstrates silversmithing
arts -- and the Calgary Metal Arts Guild, METALPHORIC.
